Memorial For Le Samurai - Hunter Jumper Grand Prix Horse

I was very saddened to learn this morning that the talented and beautiful Dressage and Eventing horse, Le Samurai, was euthanized following a tragic accident during the Rolex Grand Prix.

Hunter Jumper News: Statement from the Broussard Family, Owners of Le Samurai

My heart goes out to his owners, the Broussard family, and his rider, Amy Tryon. The hunter-jumper community has, indeed, suffered a great loss of a
magnificent horse.

Rest peacefully, Sparky. You are greatly missed.

I am so sad to learn about this. I wish this particular event would be abolished, or at least heavily improved such as collapsable jumps, and lower heights. Challenging a horse to jump over objects, and landing with such force on their front legs is very dangerous, and asking for injury. While it is beautiful to watch, it is comparable to russian roulette.

I have to agree with you, Fourhorsegal, totally on what you wrote in the comments. This particular aspect of three day seems to me to be extremely dangerous for horses who are asked to jump obstacles that are solid and will not give way.

We need to find a way to make this sport safer for these wonderful athletes that deserve protection from injury. If they are testing the talent of these horses, why not do it in a humane and sensible way?

I feel the same way about Steeplechasing. That is a brutal and cruel sport, in my opinion. I really think that this particular form of horse racing needs to be abolished. With the many horses who are entered into this form of competition being euthanized each race, where is the joy in this form of racing.

We are doing everything we can to abolish Horse Slaughter. Why not go the final step and protect ALL horses from painful and unnecessary end?

I didn't even want to read about another beautiful horse and the tradgity that went with it. So why are they doing this to them? Why take these chances? For money right? I think it should be against the law to do this, I really do. So now we animal lovers have to read about this and feel the pain of another loss. Sorry, I don't understand some people. It is hard enough when they pass of sickness or accidents that could not be helped. Protect them!!!!!!!!!!  Christina.

I could not believe my eyes...I was saddened and felt a little queasy when it was confirmed...my greatest fear...a bad landing that I had hoped had not really happened. I almost felt like it was one of my own....
My sincere heartfelt condolences to the Broussard family, as well as Amy Tryon for the loss of one with so much talent and heart.
Know that Sparky is wating for us all to come watch him do that thing he does best, facinate us with his talent and grace in Heaven.
My prayers are with everyone whose life he touched.

Didn't I see this horse just last week on television? What a beautiful animal. I am sure his owners are heart broken. My prayers and thoughts are with him.

I do not think that abolishing eventing or cross country will solve this problem. As an avid 3 day competitor for many years, the positives of the sport out way the very few negatives. There is far more good with the sport than the bad. However, it seems that the negative is always what is focused on.

Go to a three day event. Watch the partnership between horse and rider. The trust, the friendship, the love. It is amazing the connection that a horse and rider must have to successfully complete an event. Before we cast jo
