Glow and Prayers Needed For Dio -Weimaraner Puppy 6 Months Old.

See Donna9331's comment for a more complete update on Dio. He is home. Prayer does wonders! Be well, Dio and behave yourself, please. I think that the CARE option is really fantastic as a choice for payment. It does give folks the chance to pay off a large bill, interest free, for a year. Thanks for the update, Donna.

Update on Dio: 12/27

As a result of Dio's surgery, it was found that the rawhide was not the "culprit", but that he had ingested a bandana and that was what was causing the blockage. He is still not able to keep food down, so must remain in the hospital until he can do so.  They are giving him small amounts of food every two hours. Prayers are much appreciated by Dio's family. I will keep you updated as I learn more.

Dio, "grandson" to my friend Donna, swallowed a raw hide and has an intestinal blockage. Please send glow and prayers for this sweet puppy. He is so young and his  human "parents" are so worried about him.

Dio is at the E.R. Veterinary Hospital at this time. Glow for a great outcome for you, sweet puppy.

We all send prayers and loving thoughts to Dio and his  family.

Here is a picture of a Weimaraner so we can connect with him more easily.

Dio needed emergency surgery to remove the rawhide from his stomache.  In fact, he is probably in surgery as I am typing.

They "think" it is right at the exit of the stomach which would be good... they wouln't have to cut into his intestines or even cut part of his intestines out.

It's a rare occurance, the doctors say, they only see about 5 a year.

Money wise, it is unbelieveable.  The surgery is going to run between 1900 and 2700.  YIKES!  The kids had just sold a piece of land upon which they planned to build their dream house until we heard Roger was to lose his job when the local Ford plant closed next year.  They JUST sold the land and the profit will cover the surgery.  They won't be able to afford the camper they wanted to buy, but Jessica and Kylee will have their beloved Dio.

Please keep Dio in your prayers.  If he does well, he may be able to come home tomorrow.

My prayers are with all of you especially Dio. He is too young yet to go to the bridge he needs to run and play here with his loved ones first. I pray all goes well. It is a shame how much money vets get from all of us people who love our fur babies. That is how they get us because we love them so much. I think it is so wrong. Don't get me wrong they help us when we need it but they go overboard. Christina.

It ended up not being a rawhide, but a bandana he'd swallowed (somehow).  It was at the exit of his stomach (good news that it did not enter his intestines or the surgery would have been much more complicated.)  The piece of rawhide was 'milked' down into his intestine where it cannot become lodged and will be passed.

He can't keep food down yet, so didn't get to come home today... we're hoping for tomorrow.  Keep thought good thoughts coming

How is Dio  doing? I would love to update the information. Folks have been asking about him.

UPDATE:

Dio came home Wed night.  Hunter, their lab, wants to play, but of course Dio has staples from here to eternity on his belly.  First night home, Jessica (granddaughter and Hunter's owner), Hunter and Roger slept in the bedroom.  Denise slept in the recliner with Dio. Of course he has a cone on his head, and they both hate being crated, but for now, they must be kept apart for 10>14 days.

Dio's still on meds and has to eat slowly (he's a BIG gobbler).

The bill, all considered was at the low end of their estimate of $1955 > $2700.

They neutered him while he was "under" (a $50 extra) plus had to keep him an extra day because he was vomiting (the IV painkillers were making him sick).  I told Denise..FOR PETES SAKES..when you give a human a painkiller that strong, you also give them promethezine for the nausea!  DOH!

Anyways, the bill came in at $1977.  The CARE (credit) CARD they have to cover the bill is interest free for 12 months, then the interest jumps to 25%.  I think that's a wonderful option for someone trying to save a beloved pet -- a 12 month reprieve to get it paid off.

Roger and Denise have sold their land on which they hoped to build in a couple years since Roger is probably losing his job later this year.  If/when the land closes, Dio gets paid off.  :)  If that falls through, they'll have a nice income tax refund to pay it off.

All in all, this has been the MOST bizarre of Christmas's.  Here's hoping for a saner 2007, please?

Thank you for all your prayers and support... they DEFINITELY MADE A DIFFERENCE.
