The Louisiana state vet is NOT allowing any animals to leave the state for the 15 DAY quarantine!! They have also closed the main facilities to any more animals being brought in. there are over 2000 animals in there!! NO MORE IN, NO MORE OUT. Rescue groups have animals loaded on trucks and vans and ARMED GUARDS wont let them bring them to the shelters, and then to pick-up others to bring home. . read below and take action on monday for 1000 calls to the White House.

We were told by someone in Homeland Security yesterday, that believe it or not, the way to get this solved is to have 1000 people call the White House to demand that the military go in and save these animals. Now that they have evacuated so many humans, its TIME, NOW, to save their best friends. The death toll of humans is much lower than expected, but not evacuating the pets has made the animal death toll unimaginable. AMERICA DOES NOT ABANDON IT'S PETS WHILE WATCHING THEM SUFFER A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH. This is cruelty to animals, which humans caused by leaving them, then not rescuing them, NOW HUMANS MUST SAVE THEM. FLOODING THE WHITE HOUSE WITH CALLS ON MONDAY WILL GUARANTEE a call from the White House to the field to save the animals. SPREAD THE WORD and thank you for standing up for the animals. You have saved many so far, and, many to come!

A Beautiful Rescue Poem!
This poem was sent to me by Laurentha. I dedicate this poem to all the people who rescue animals, especially those animals who have special needs and who require a lot of devoted assistance.. This poem also is dedicated to Fluffy- a wonderful kitty who was paralyzed as a little baby. She has no sensation in her hind end, but nonetheless is a little "terror" and a ball of love.
God sends some of us a special mission
To take in stray kitty-cats in any condition,
To feed them and give them a permanent home,
To love them and make them our very own.
They chase through the house; their potty box smells;
They seem to have secrets they're unwilling to tell.
They play till exhausted, then curl in your lap,
And settle themselves for a long comfy nap.
Some people are called to great wealth and power,

In Memory Of Tilly- A Beloved Shih! Glow To Kplw2
2005 My Tilly, my little mama Shih, my little buddy and companion for 9 years,died unexpectedly June 16 2005. My grief has been deep and inconsolable, I miss her so.
A month or two after Tilly died my husband and I were sitting in the backyard, near where we had buried her. Out of nowhere came a butterfly....a ragged winged little thing who, after circling me, landed on my knee.
Needless to say we were enthralled as this tiny creature flew off and returned over and over again. And then she landed in my hair. She seemed quite satisfied to sit there but I wanted to see her. When my husband moved she flew off, startled as he went for a camera.
I waited, seated,patiently .....I waited quietly hardly breathing. Pretty soon the little thing flutterflew down and landed on my knee again. We studied each other. I knew this little old soul. Have you ever looked into a Butterflies eyes? All of them? They are like a wonderful kaleidoscope of wonder, and in them, the world is mirrored.
Again she left and returned. And again, and again. In my hair, on my knee, on my arm. She studied me so intently. She went to hubby too but returned to me...mutual fascination.. I was beginning to know these eyes. I have been looking into them for 9 years, such a short time. It was Tilly. It was. There was no doubt. She flew off again and again returning to my hair and knee.
I finally offered my finger and she came aboard and as I drew her up to MY eye she gave but a little flutter of her tattered wings. She seemed to say....I swear I heard it....'I've flown a long way and you should know......'
And suddenly I knew, she had flown and flown hard, all the way down from heaven to say, 'I love you Mom, don't cry.' It was Tilly. 'And I love you too I whispered as we sat there. Reluctantly we parted...but did... 
A very touching story.. from Amy
This story came to me from my friend Amy. She was sending her beloved Lobo to the bridge, and was in her vet's office. This story moved me so much, I just had to share it, and with Amy's permission.. here it is.

As you all know it was a heart breaking day for us. Our vet agreed that it would be best to put Lobo down, She said pain meds would help for a short time but I would be bringing him back in 2 - 6 months for the eventual results. She also said with the great increase in the amount of water he was drinking ( like 2 quarts at one time) it was possible his kidneys were shutting down also. Lobo was 9 years old and had a good life once he was rescued from his drug house beginnings.
While I was talking to her she said she had three others to put down today also. A 15 year old retired seeing eye dog, a 200 pound Dane with heart and liver problems and a guinea pig that had cancer belonging to the 5 year old girl in the waiting room. It was going to be a hard day for her also.
When I was finished I went out to the waiting room and there was this little girl sobbing her heart out at the loss of her pet. I walked over to her and asked her to come to me. I sat down and I put my arm around her and explained that the large dog she saw me bring in was making the same trip as her pet. (Mom and vet told her guinea pig was going to the farm). I asked her if it would be all right if he (Lobo) went with her guinea pig to protect her and show it where to go. She said yes, and hugged me. Of course you know my heart broke at that point. I had to get up and leave and as I did mom and the vet thanked me for talking to her.
Like I said maybe it helped her pain a little. I know it took some of the sting out of my losing Lobo. Oh and I should mention that hubby ( who never gets emotional about animals) sat and cried in the car when I came out alone. Of course he wouldn't allow me to hug him and console him. I explained what the vet said and he just shook his head in agreement. Tears ran down his face for about the first five minutes of the drive home. By then he managed to compose himself like nothing happened.
So I am now home with a massive headache which I am praying will go away by tomorrow. Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts, cause it helped me make the right decision. You all are wonderful people. Love you all!!! {{{}}}

Based in North Carolina: Project HALO is in the process of coordinating a trip to the flood ravaged areas of MS, AL and LA to help rescue the displaced and injured animals. We did this when Floyd hit our coast and we're being called upon again. I just spoke with the NC Director of EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) and she expects us to be deployed Wednesday (9/7). I expected to be able to leave earlier but right now I understand they're focusing on human rescue and as we all know the animal's needs will be the last to be addressed.
•Following is a list of items I've been told are needed:
Advantage/Frontline/Heartgard, Plastic pet carriers, Leashes/collars, Food/water bowls, Zip ties, Litter/Litter boxes/Scoops, Duct Tape, Wet Ones/Handiwipes, Paper Towels, Plastic Trash Bags, Tarps, Plastic or Rubber Gloves, Sharpie Pens, Bug Spray for the volunteers, Polaroid Film, Polaroid Cameras, Any type of wound dressing material (gauze, tape, wound wash, etc),
•If any of you have a good relationship with your vet, see if they will donate some medical supplies.
• We need everything to set up a triage area for the injured.
• We've also been made aware of the need for small animal rescue such as guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and ferrets. They need bedding (no cedar), breed specific food, water bottles, heavy-medium size food bowls and BAGGED timothy or alfalfa hay.

been rescued and brought in on a daily basis and are in need of food and supplies. We have contacted our friends at The Meow Mix Company who have offered to help with food and will have several pallets of food delivered to their shelter within the next few days. We are coordinating to have more food delivered to help other shelters in other disaster areas.

OK, now to give you all some information as to what is what. Understandably so,its people first down there. Now, about our furry loved ones in MS. The animals we are dealing with are Owner Turn- Overs. These pets have been turned over to the shelter by their owners and need good homes. We are working with a transport company that is currently down in MS trying to get our fist load of dogs. There are groups of animal disaster relief workers down in the disaster area, who are doing everything they can to get these animals processed.
There is a NASTY RUMOR, going around that people are shooting animals.This is not accurate. There have been some severely injured animals that have had to be humanely euthanized, however the first priority of these trained rescue folks is to help and save these animals. They are doing a superb job. Kudos and blessings go out to them.
There are still some areas that these folks have not been able to reach due to the human rescue effort. Triage for the animals is set up and they are working non-stop. Please keep these folks in your prayers.
Jackson has stationing areas in place. PLEASE DO NOT GO DOWN TO MISSISSIPPI. Let the Pros do their jobs.
As soon as possible, all animals that come through the shelters who have been rescued, will be placed on a "match list". There is a detailed list that is being used. Priority is to attempt to reunite pet with their human companions. There is a list of perspective fosters and adopters ( who will be screened to assure they have the proper facility to take in lost pets) If you are chosen, you will then receive a call from the transporter and can discuss with her at that time where in your state she will be bringing the animals.
This is all done with volunteers, so go easy on us please.Lynda and her mom are doing their very best!

Based in North Carolina: Project HALO is in the process of coordinating a trip to the flood ravaged areas of MS, AL and LA to help rescue the displaced and injured animals. We did this when Floyd hit our coast and we're being called upon again. I just spoke with the NC Director of EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) and she expects us to be deployed Wednesday (9/7). I expected to be able to leave earlier but right now I understand they're focusing on human rescue and as we all know the animal's needs will be the last to be addressed.
•Following is a list of items I've been told are needed:
Advantage/Frontline/Heartgard, Plastic pet carriers, Leashes/collars, Food/water bowls, Zip ties, Litter/Litter boxes/Scoops, Duct Tape, Wet Ones/Handiwipes, Paper Towels, Plastic Trash Bags, Tarps, Plastic or Rubber Gloves, Sharpie Pens, Bug Spray for the volunteers, Polaroid Film, Polaroid Cameras, Any type of wound dressing material (gauze, tape, wound wash, etc),
•If any of you have a good relationship with your vet, see if they will donate some medical supplies.
• We need everything to set up a triage area for the injured.
• We've also been made aware of the need for small animal rescue such as guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and ferrets. They need bedding (no cedar), breed specific food, water bottles, heavy-medium size food bowls and BAGGED timothy or alfalfa hay.

There are still many animals that are left inside homes that need to
be rescued. We are putting out a SPECIAL ANIMAL BOLO ALERT and are
asking anyone that may know someone that had to evacuate the
disaster areas that had companion animals that they had to leave
behind to please have them contact Pets & Animals in Distress at:

areas who are already on the ground rescuing stranded animals.

I also spoke to Danine who is the Shelter Manager with the Humane
Society of Monroe (http://bayoupets.org/), Louisiana that is about 4 hours away from New
Orleans, who said that their shelter has been inundated with many animals that were dropped off by pet owners because of the evacuation and are now being cared for along with many other animals that have
been rescued and brought in on a daily basis and are in need of food and supplies. We have contacted our friends at The Meow Mix Company who have offered to help with food and will have several pallets of food delivered to their shelter within the next few days. We are coordinating to have more food delivered to help other shelters in other disaster areas.

What is being seen on the news Yvette said isn't even touching justhow serious things are down there. 100's and even 1000's of animals are homeless with no feed, water, or medical attention. People are standing on the streets trying to give their animals away due to no place to go with them or money to care for them.
People can also purchase items online through PetSmart, Petco, Wal-Mart, and other pet supply companies and have them ship directly to LSU or Yvette.
Things are in a desperate situation now and any kind of help is needed ASAP.

OK, now to give you all some information as to what is what. Understandably so,its people first down there. Now, about our furry loved ones in MS. The animals we are dealing with are Owner Turn- Overs. These pets have been turned over to the shelter by their owners and need good homes. We are working with a transport company that is currently down in MS trying to get our fist load of dogs. There are groups of animal disaster relief workers down in the disaster area, who are doing everything they can to get these animals processed.
There is a NASTY RUMOR, going around that people are shooting animals.This is not accurate. There have been some severely injured animals that have had to be humanely euthanized, however the first priority of these trained rescue folks is to help and save these animals. They are doing a superb job. Kudos and blessings go out to them.
There are still some areas that these folks have not been able to reach due to the human rescue effort. Triage for the animals is set up and they are working non-stop. Please keep these folks in your prayers.
Jackson has stationing areas in place. PLEASE DO NOT GO DOWN TO MISSISSIPPI. Let the Pros do their jobs.
As soon as possible, all animals that come through the shelters who have been rescued, will be placed on a "match list". There is a detailed list that is being used. Priority is to attempt to reunite pet with their human companions. There is a list of perspective fosters and adopters ( who will be screened to assure they have the proper facility to take in lost pets) If you are chosen, you will then receive a call from the transporter and can discuss with her at that time where in your state she will be bringing the animals.
This is all done with volunteers, so go easy on us please.Lynda and her mom are doing their very best!

Please Help Homeless Pets Due To Katrina
Noah's Wish Rescue Organization:
This group is doing a fantastic job to help the animals impacted by Katrina. Here is the link to their site. If you can, please make a donation or check out what you can do to help them in their incredible work.
They are taking donations of money, supplies and other items that they need so desperately. There is a list of items that they need on their website. They are not stockpiling food, and request that they be contacted prior to making any item donations.
They also are open to folks who can actually go there and help them out also. Please take the time to explore their website at this very, very difficult time for man and the animals who are also suffering so badly.
They are also rescuing and holding animals they find to hopefully reunite them with their people as well as the countless ferals and strays that lived in the area.
Thank you for all that you can do for our needy animals!
